Tom was born and raised in Manhattan, and with the exception of periods of time where his career required him to live in London and Los Angeles, he has called New York home. After completing his undergraduate career at the University of Denver where he majored in Journalism and Political Science, Tom had planned to continue on to law school but decided instead that he wanted to pursue a career geared more to what he felt were his creative strengths. This decision led to an extremely successful and high profile career with Arista Records as the head of Marketing and Artist Development. During the time he was at Arista , he was responsible for a Product Management team that was an integral part in guiding the recording careers of a diverse roster of artists. These artists covered a wide spectrum of musical genres from Whitney Houston to The Grateful Dead to Sean “P Diddy” Combs. It was at Arista while working with Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics, that he met their manager Simon Fuller who hired him to start the American division of his London based company, 19 Entertainment. Fuller declared 19’s mission was to successfully use the power of television to develop, create and nurture new talent. This was achieved by the creation of “American Idol” which of course has become an integral part of American pop culture. After leaving 19 Entertainment and “American Idol” in 2007, Tom was hired to be the General Manager of Red Light Management. In the four year period that Tom was there, Red Light became the largest privately held artist management company in the world. The client roster included Dave Matthews, Alicia Keyes, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and many others.
Tom’s entire professional life has been geared towards nurturing creative talent. To do this and to do it well, it required the ability not only to listen but really hear what it was the artists he represented were telling him. He always understood the great responsibility and trust given to him by his clients as he sought to guide them to successful careers. He also knew that it wasn’t a singular effort, but a close collaboration between himself, the client, and the team of experts he put together to help the process. The same holds true for his approach to real estate. If you are looking for a home or an investment property in Manhattan give Tom a call . He is someone with a breadth of knowledge about the city he loves, as well as a consummate professional supported by the other members of the Coleman-Orphanos team.
